Thinking in disasters that happened in Spain I think I have to emphasise in the “Prestige” disaster. The Prestige was an oil tanker. On November 2002 the Prestige filled on board with 77,000 metric tons of fuel oil was sailing near the Galicia coast. It was a very sever storm: heavy rains, high winds over 120 km/h, and very turbulent sea (that kind of storms are not infrequent in winter in the part of the Galicia coast that is called “Costa de la Muerte” that means “Dead Coast”).
The ship began to spill fuel and the Spanish government made the decision to move the ship away from the coast, that was a very terrible mistake because from the new position of the ship, the ship was still more beaten by the storm, the ship broke, the oil was spread into a long “fuel front” and carried by the strong winds to the coastline of Galicia, as a consequence the black tide of highly toxic fuel reached the cost. The oil destroyed one of the richest areas in Europe for fishing and one of the most beautiful places in Galicia. Hundreds of beaches were destroyed the wildlife was damaged and the economy of the area seriously affected.
The disaster has a great impact in the Spanish society; many people went to Galicia to make volunteer work cleaning the beaches and rocks.
The disaster had also political consequences because it was shown the incompetence of the political leaders.
What do you think classmates?

That was a great disaster! I've been to Galicia many times and it was a very sad view to see the beaches as they were. I wonder why politicians are so blind sometimes... and we allow them to be!
Here are some of my comments to your language:
GOOD JOB! YOU CERTAINLY TAKE CARE OF WHAT YOU SAY. HOWEVER, YOUR SENTENCES SOUND A BIT STIFF SOMETIMES BUT THEY ARE QUITE ACCEPTABLE. HERE ARE THE FEW THINGS I'D CHANGE:
-THERE was a very severE storm
-heavy rain(0), high wind(0) (I'D USE THE SINGULAR HERE)
-reached the coAst
-The disaster haD a great...
-because it SHOWED the incompetence...
